MarketingCharts is reporting some preliminary numbers from a recent NAA survey that says consumers rely on newspaper ads as they shop and make purchase decisions.

The study, commissioned by the NAA and conducted by MORI says 59% of consumers identify newspapers as “the medium they use to help plan shopping or make purchase decisions.” The numbers put newspapers 20 points ahead of other media, including the Internet.

Other numbers:

  • 73% of adults regularly or occasionally read newspaper inserts
  • 82% have taken action because of a newspaper insert in the past month

As MarketingCharts mentions, this contradicts a recent Harris poll that showed television was the most effective media when it comes to helping consumers make purchase decisions.

Full results from this new survey will be published this fall.
