E-mails are a great way to reach out to prospects, but the e-mail subject line may prevent them from even clicking what you’ve sent. Despite salespeople’s best efforts with catchy phrases or humor, prospects are more likely to open e-mails that are not only personal to them, but immediately grab their attention without being gimmicky. Chad Levitt, sales associate and blogger, writes that urgency and personalization are key to keeping prospects from hitting the delete button. One tactic he suggests is using one of the following subject lines when requesting a meeting:
- Shall we meet Tuesday?
- Can you talk Wednesday at 2pm?
- Can you attend Friday at 12pm?
Why do these work? It’s personal to the prospect. Levitt writes, “You’re requesting a meeting at a specific date and time. He needs to read enough to determine what you want, then check his calendar to see if he can meet. These subject lines are successful because even though people no longer feel a sense of obligation to return every message, they do feel more obliged to RSVP to a meeting invitation.”
