Big Game Trivia: How Much on Potato Chips?

The big game is right around the corner, with kickoff scheduled for 6:28 EST on Sunday. CBS is hoping for a record number of viewers, and as always, there’s a lot more going on than just a football game. There are the ads, of course, which this year include a new entry from GoDaddy and the return of the Budweiser Clydesdales, and the half-time spectacle featuring The Who.

Whether you’re in it for the ads or the game, here are some game day tidbits to get you through the party, courtesy of Media Life Magazine:

  • The most popular game day food? Vegetables, surprisingly enough. But we’ll spend $644 million on snacks, with nearly $190 million going to potato chips.
  • The number one beverage? Soft drinks. Followed by milk and tea. Beer sales for Super Sunday rank behind six other holidays.
  • Miami and New Orleans have both hosted the big game nine times.
  • The Pittsburgh Steelers have won the most times – six.
  • This year, most betting sites have the Indianapolis Colts favored by five points over the New Orleans Saints.
  • The coveted post-game time slot this year goes to the series premiere of “Undercover Boss.”
  • Last year’s post-game showing of “The Office” averaged 22 million viewers. The biggest post-Super Bowl numbers belong to “Friends” which averaged 53 million viewers after the 1996 game.

Finally, here’s a great source for Super Bowl advertising www.superbowl-ads.com. Watch the best ads from the past 12 years – remember Louie the Lizard trying to kill off the Budweiser frogs? – and preview this year’s ads. Enjoy the game!
