The “recipe” for successful business development, according to the principal of marketing and public relations firm Berbay Corp., requires these ingredients: Commitment, culture, compensation, and cultivation. In her article “Business Development: The Perfect Recipe for Making Rain,” Sharon Berman writes that while there isn’t an magical way to instantly get new business, the aforementioned four C’s are essential to the transformation into a rainmaker.

The first ingredient in Berman’s recipe for success is commitment. Salespeople don’t just turn into rainmakers with the snap of a finger, and willingness to commit time and patience is needed. She warns that “Once you have embarked on a course of action, don’t expect the first substantial results for 12-24 months, although you may see some success sooner.” The first step to making it rain is to recognize that things won’t happen overnight, but making a commitment begins the journey.

Nice post… From my experience in the direct selling field committment by a sales rep and everyone around him or her is vital.
Too many times on two many media companies, we see the lambs come in and get slaughtered.

I call it the 180 days syndrome- if you have not made it in 180 days you are gone… and it’s not right…
