Many of us complain about being inundated with information, but based on recent numbers from the Pew Internet and American Life Project, Americans like multiple sources of information. More than 90 percent of Americans surveyed say they use multiple platforms every day to get the news, but local TV news remains the most popular of all sources.
Fifty nine percent of those surveyed use both online and offline sources for news, with national TV news coming in second behind the local TV news, the Internet ranks third:
- 78% say they get news from a local TV station
- 73% get news from a national TV network or cable source
- 61% get news online
- 54% listen to radio news at home or in the car
- 50% read the local newspaper
Consumers have their favorite online sources: 57 percent say they rely on two to five Web sites. These consumers also like to be able to customize their online news site to include specific topics or sources.
A quarter of Americans say they get some form of news via their mobile phone, and two thirds say they get news forwarded through e-mail or social networks.
