While second half numbers aren’t out from the magazines, single copy magazine sales for 2008 appear to be trending down. MagNet, which compiles magazine newsstand sales data, reports that single-copy sales declined 8 percent from the same period in 2007 to 244 million copies.

Dollar sales were down 2 percent from the same period.

For the first nine months of 2008, unit sales were down 9 percent to 718 million, and dollar sales were down 2.7 percent to $3.4 billion. Final figures are available yet for fourth quarter, but industry insiders expect sales for fourth quarter to be worse than third quarter, even with the sales bump provided by special election editions.
