In honor of his recent 45th birthday, sales blogger Paul Castain shares 45 tips for “the aspiring rock star.” His list includes not only great ways to improve sales technique and style, but also ideas for one’s personal life and overall well-being. I really enjoyed reading Castain’s article because not only were many of his ideas for improving selling new to me, his approach to improving both professional and personal aspects of life is one that is unique when it comes to sales advice articles. Plus, some of the tips are just fun (a sales playlist!).

I’ve included some of the particularly interesting tips from his article, and you can find the entire list here.

  • Use the webcam on your computer to practice your presentations. Relax, it’s for your eyes only but you need to critique, learn and adjust.
  • Stand up and move when you make your calls. Notice the difference in your energy level. Think your prospect will?
  • Make a monthly commitment of investing in yourself by : Reading a book, buying a magazine, a CD, something to help you be more successful. If you are willing to invest in stocks, perhaps it’s time you invest in yourself!
  • When was the last time you listened to your voicemail message on both your office and cell phone. Perhaps it’s time for a makeover?
  • Did you know: Laughter is an awesome remedy for nerves? Try listening to comedy before any activity that makes you nervous!
