Don’t Be A Summer Slacker

Part of the country is currently experiencing record-breaking hot temperatures…but how “hot” are your sales right now? Summer is a notoriously lazy time of year, and it’s easy to be lulled by the hot weather. Instead of daydreaming about the beach or shrugging off prospects’ wishes to wait to buy until after summer, take charge of your business! In the words of sales pro Colleen Francis, “Smart sales people know summer can be a great time of year to reconnect with clients and prospects, and to meet new people who are holding down the fort.”

Francis lists tips for “heating up” sales, and points out that it’s a great time to beat out competitors who are (mentally and physically) on “summer break.” A few of my favorites are listed below, and the rest can be found here.

  • Attend at least 1 networking event per week  – take 3 clients golfing or join one of the many golf tournaments this summer.
  • Host a client appreciation event at your office, on a patio, or at your home.
  • Purchase some Dairy Queen gift certificates and mail them to your clients as a summer treat and thank you.
  • If you sell to a local market, take one day out of the office and stop in – “pop-by” your clients to see them in person and chat about their plans for the rest of the year.
