Despite doom and gloom predictions for the print industry, Folio blogger Joe Pulizzi thinks there is still a role for print, even in the ‘era of iPads and Apps.’ In fact, he thinks print will make a comeback in 2011, and lists some pretty good reasons marketers should use consider using it.
- Getting Attention: There are fewer magazines and printed newsletters being produced these days, which means fewer things in the mailbox. Less clutter means everything probably gets a little more attention.
- Customers Still Need to Ask Questions: According to Pulizzi, print is “lean back versus lean forward,” meaning print makes customers think and ask questions about what they read.
- Print Still Excites People: Pulizzi makes an excellent point here – journalists today sometimes have trouble finding people to interview for online stories. But if it’s an interview that will be printed, then people find time. The printed word is still perceived as more credible than what’s online.
- Unplug: Many people are choosing to take breaks from today’s constant digital interruptions, including their phone. Print is something people may be turning during these digital media breaks.
Pulizzi lists seven reasons, read the rest of them here, and the next time a prospect tells you there’s no reason to use print today, you’ve got seven responses!
